Woman Killed, Four Injured as Law Student’s Speeding Car Crashes Into Two-Wheelers in Vadodara

Vadodara, March 14, 2025 – A woman was killed and four others were injured when a speeding car driven by a 20-year-old law student crashed into their two-wheelers in Vadodara early Friday morning. Police suspect it may be a case of drunk driving.

The accident occurred around 12:30 AM near Muktanand Circle in the Karelibaug area, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Panna Momaya. The driver, identified as Rakshit Chaurasiya, was arrested at the scene after being caught by bystanders.

The deceased woman, identified as Hemali Patel, was riding her scooter when Chaurasiya’s car struck her and other two-wheelers at high speed. Patel died on the spot, while the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital.

Eyewitnesses claimed Chaurasiya appeared intoxicated and was shouting, “Another round, another round!” after stepping out of the car. A video circulating online shows Chaurasiya being confronted and beaten by locals before being handed over to the police.

Chaurasiya, originally from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, is a law student living in Vadodara in a PG accommodation. The car belonged to his friend Mit Chauhan, who was sitting in the passenger seat during the accident. Chauhan fled the scene, and police are trying to track him down.

CCTV footage shows the speeding car hitting two scooters and dragging them before coming to a stop. DCP Momaya said Chaurasiya holds a valid driving license, but a medical test will determine if he was under the influence of alcohol.
