Preparations underway for the cremation of ASI Sandeep

Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): Amid growing scrutiny over the sudden and tragic death of IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, his wife, senior IAS officer Amneet P. Kumar, has authorized the post-mortem examination, citing confidence in the integrity of the investigation promised by authorities.

In an official statement, Amneet Kumar noted that the decision was made after she received assurances from both the Union Territory Police and the Haryana government regarding a thorough and impartial inquiry. She stated that her consent was driven by the need for a timely and transparent examination in pursuit of justice.

“Given the commitment by UT Police to ensure a fair and unbiased investigation, along with the Haryana government’s assurance to act against any officials found at fault, I have agreed to the post-mortem,” her statement read.

She further added that the post-mortem must follow all procedural safeguards — to be conducted by a designated board of medical professionals, in the presence of a ballistic analyst, with oversight from a magistrate, and fully documented via videography. These conditions, she said, are essential to maintaining transparency and preserving evidentiary value.

The death of Y Puran Kumar, a serving IPS officer, has prompted widespread concern and calls for accountability, especially within the administrative community. With speculation mounting and demands for clarity growing louder, the post-mortem is expected to be a key step in determining the cause of death.

Though the exact circumstances surrounding the case remain under investigation, officials have emphasized their commitment to due process and legal accountability. A timeline for the post-mortem procedure has not yet been disclosed, but it is expected to take place under high-level oversight.

As the case develops, public interest continues to rise, with many hoping for answers that will bring closure and justice.
