National Times Bureau :- While the ongoing heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh has triggered flood-like conditions in parts of Punjab, the Meteorological Department has issued a clear update for the state. For now, there is no rain alert for Punjab. According to the latest forecast, the weather is expected to remain normal for the next five days. However, on August 12, heavy rainfall is likely, and an official alert has been issued for that day.
Meanwhile, the Water Resources Department has released about 23,300 cusecs of water from Pong Dam at 5 PM on Wednesday. By Thursday morning, the volume of water released was doubled, raising concerns for low-lying areas downstream.
Slight Rise in Temperature
On Wednesday, light rain was reported in a few areas of Punjab, but most districts remained dry. As a result, there was a slight increase in temperature. The average maximum temperature in the state rose by 1.8°C, though it still remained within the normal range.
Samrala recorded the highest temperature in Punjab at 36.6°C. Other key temperatures across the state included:
- Amritsar: 34.5°C
- Ludhiana: 33.6°C
- Patiala: 33.1°C (with 13.7 mm rainfall)
- Faridkot: 34.2°C
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, especially in areas near rivers and dams, as more rainfall could further impact water levels across the region.
