National Times Bureau :- Voting to elect India’s 17th Vice President began this morning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi casting the first vote. The election follows the resignation of 16th Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, who stepped down citing health reasons.
Early voters included Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Arjun Ram Meghwal, and Kiren Rijiju, along with Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairperson Harivansh, BJP MP Kangana Ranaut, and Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav.
Members of both Houses of Parliament are voting today between 10 AM and 5 PM at the Parliament House. The counting of votes will commence at 6 PM, and results are expected later in the evening. MPs are not bound by a party whip for this election, and voting is being conducted through a secret ballot system.
