Voting Begins for Haryana Urban Polls; BJP and Congress Face Off in Crucial Civic Contest

News Alert

Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): Polling commenced early Sunday across several urban local bodies in Haryana, with voters turning out to elect representatives for key municipal corporations, councils and committees. The voting process started at 8:00 AM and will continue until 6:00 PM.

The elections are being conducted for municipal corporations in Panchkula, Ambala and Sonipat. In addition, voters are casting ballots for the municipal council in Rewari and municipal committees in Sampla, Dharuhera and Uklana.

Authorities have deployed security personnel and election staff across polling centres to ensure peaceful and smooth conduct of voting. Special arrangements have also been made at sensitive booths to prevent any disruption during the process.

The elections have sparked a direct political battle between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the opposition Indian National Congress, with both parties aiming to strengthen their urban foothold in the state.

Political observers believe the outcome could serve as a key barometer of voter sentiment and may shape the narrative for future electoral contests in Haryana.

Counting for the municipal elections is scheduled for May 13, while votes for panchayat bodies will be counted soon after polling concludes. The results are expected to offer a clearer picture of the political landscape in Haryana’s urban centres.
