New Delhi, July 16, 2025: Indian cricket superstar Virat Kohli has scripted yet another chapter in cricketing history, becoming the first batter ever to cross the 900-point mark in ICC Men’s Cricket Rankings across all formats of the game, following an update to his T20I rating on Wednesday.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) revised Kohli’s all-time T20I best rating from 897 to 909 points, according to Wisden. This places him third on the list of highest T20I ratings ever, behind compatriot Suryakumar Yadav (912) and England’s Dawid Malan (919).
With this milestone, Kohli has now achieved the rare feat of breaching the 900-point barrier in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is a record unmatched in cricket’s annals.
In Tests, Kohli peaked at 937 points in 2018 during India’s tour of England, where he amassed 593 runs in 10 innings, including two centuries and three fifties. His ODI rating reached its pinnacle the same year at 909 points, thanks to stellar performances on the tour of England, where he scored 191 runs in three matches.
At the zenith of his career, Kohli was the world’s top-ranked batter in all three formats simultaneously a rare dominance that underpins arguments labelling him as perhaps the greatest all-format batter of all time.
Despite retiring from T20Is after India’s T20 World Cup triumph last year and announcing his retirement from Test cricket this May, Kohli remains active in ODIs. He continues to be a pillar of India’s batting lineup, boasting 14,181 runs in 302 ODIs at an impressive average of 57.88, with 51 centuries and 74 fifties.
Across all formats, Kohli has amassed a staggering 27,599 international runs at an average of 52.27, with 82 centuries and 143 half-centuries making him India’s second-highest run-scorer and the third-highest in world cricket history.
His last ODI appearance came during India’s victorious ICC Champions Trophy campaign in March, where he contributed 218 runs in five matches, including a crucial century against Pakistan.
With his T20I ratings upgrade, Kohli has etched his name deeper into cricket’s record books, reinforcing his legacy as one of the sport’s all-time greats.
