Karur (Rajeev Sharma): In the aftermath of the deadly stampede that unfolded during a political gathering in Karur, Tamil actor and TVK leader Thalapathy Vijay has extended financial support to the victims’ families, pledging Rs 20 lakh for each family that lost a loved one, and Rs 2 lakh for each injured person currently under medical care.
The emotional tragedy, which took place during a public rally organized by Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), claimed dozens of lives and left many others injured when the crowd reportedly swelled out of control.
Vijay’s Personal Note: “A Loss Beyond Repair”
In a deeply moving statement released by the actor-politician, Vijay acknowledged the gravity of the incident and expressed solidarity with those affected.
“This is a grief we cannot measure,” he wrote. “While no financial help can make up for a life lost, I stand with the families in this moment of heartbreak. As one among you, this is a responsibility I carry in both heart and conscience.”
Vijay emphasized that the financial assistance is not a compensation for the emotional toll but a gesture of support from someone who considers himself part of the community.
An Unprecedented Tragedy at a Political Event
The stampede took place during a TVK rally in Karur on Saturday evening, drawing tens of thousands of supporters. Reports suggest the stampede was triggered when the crowd surged toward the stage, eager to catch a glimpse of Vijay. Witnesses described chaotic scenes and confusion as people were crushed in the crowd. Emergency teams rushed in to provide aid, but several lives were lost before medical help could reach them.
