Amritsar (National Times): A team from the Punjab Vigilance Bureau raided the residence of senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia on Wednesday morning in connection with an ongoing probe into alleged corruption and misuse of power.
The raid, which began early in the morning at Majithia’s residence in Majitha, near Amritsar, continued for several hours. Officials from the bureau were seen examining documents and other materials, reportedly related to Majithia’s past tenure in the Punjab government.
Tight security was deployed around the premises, with no one allowed to enter or leave the house during the operation.
Majithia Remains Under Political and Legal Spotlight
Majithia, a prominent face of the Shiromani Akali Dal, has been a vocal critic of the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government. He has previously faced legal troubles, including a high-profile case filed by the Punjab Police in connection with alleged drug trafficking, in which he was later granted bail.
Wednesday’s raid has reignited the political war of words in Punjab. The Akali Dal condemned the raid, calling it “a deliberate attempt to defame opposition leaders before the next election.”
