Chandigarh, November 30 — Vice President of India C.P. Radhakrishnan addressed the All-India Devasthanam Conference held in Kurukshetra alongside the International Gita Mahotsav 2025. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Gita scholar Swami Gyananand Maharaj and several dignitaries were present at the event.
The Vice President said he felt honoured to stand on the sacred land of Kurukshetra, known as the “land of the Vedas,” where Lord Krishna delivered the divine wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna thousands of years ago. He said Kurukshetra is a timeless reminder that righteousness always prevails over unrighteousness, no matter how strong the latter appears.
Speaking on the significance of the Gita, he described it as more than a religious scripture—calling it a “universal guide for spiritual living, courageous action and enlightened awareness.” He emphasised Lord Krishna’s message of focusing on duty guided by righteousness, which he said remains the key to living a meaningful and purposeful life.
Highlighting the importance of strong character, he said character outweighs wealth or worldly achievements. The Gita, he noted, guides humanity toward a virtuous and disciplined life and reminds us, like Lord Krishna, that moral strength comes from clarity of purpose and dedication to righteousness.
Expressing hope that the Gita’s teachings will continue to guide individuals, societies and nations towards peace and harmony in a rapidly changing world, the Vice President stressed its enduring relevance.
He praised the growth of the annual Gita Jayanti celebrations, noting how the event has expanded into a global cultural and spiritual festival over the past nine years. He congratulated the Haryana government and Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini for giving the festival international prominence and for steering Haryana towards new heights of development.
The Vice President said he was pleased that the International Gita Mahotsav showcases the divine qualities of Lord Krishna, the teachings of the Srimad Bhagavad Gita and the rich cultural heritage of Sanatan Dharma in a way accessible to people of all ages.
Appreciating the festival as a platform that reinforces India’s core values — duty, discipline, righteousness and the pursuit of excellence — he said these principles form the foundation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and a developed India by 2047.
He also commended the Kurukshetra Development Board and Gita Gyan Sansthan for organising a conference that brought together saints, scholars, technologists, artists and cultural leaders from across the country. Such platforms, he said, enrich dialogue, strengthen cultural exchange and inspire young minds to view the Gita not as a distant scripture but as a living guide to courage, humility and wisdom.
In his concluding remarks, Vice President Radhakrishnan urged everyone to imbibe the eternal teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, act according to dharma, seek wisdom, embrace peace and contribute to the welfare of humanity.
Earlier, he visited the Maa Bhadrakali Shakti Peeth Temple in Kurukshetra and offered prayers.
