Veteran Akali Leader Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa Passes Away at 89

Chandigarh/Sangrur, May 28, 2025: Senior Taksali Akali leader and former patron of the Shiromani Akali Dal, Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, passed away at the age of 89.

According to sources, Dhindsa had been unwell for some time and was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Mohali, where he breathed his last at 5 PM today.

A prominent political figure, Dhindsa was honored with the Padma Bhushan in 2019 for his contributions to public life. In 2020, he parted ways with the Shiromani Akali Dal. Over his extensive political career, he served as a Member of both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.

His passing marks the end of an era in Punjab’s political landscape.
