Vaishno Devi Pilgrimage Halted Temporarily Amid Weather Concerns

Vaishno Devi Yatra Restarts After Three-Day Weather Break

Katra (Rajeev Sharma): The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has announced a brief suspension of the Vaishno Devi Yatra following a weather advisory issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The pilgrimage will remain on hold from October 5 to October 7, with plans to resume on October 8, 2025.

The official update, shared via the Shrine Board’s social media handle, cites safety concerns due to anticipated rough weather conditions in the Trikuta Hills region, where the revered shrine is located. The forecast includes heavy rainfall and potential landslides, which could endanger the safety of pilgrims trekking the steep mountainous paths.

Authorities have urged devotees to postpone their travel during this period and monitor official updates before planning their journey. Pilgrims currently in Katra and nearby areas are being assisted by local administration and support teams to ensure their well-being during the temporary suspension.

The yatra, which draws millions of worshippers annually, often faces interruptions during periods of extreme weather, especially during the monsoon and early winter months. Safety remains the top priority for the Shrine Board, which continues to coordinate closely with meteorological and disaster response teams.

As conditions improve, normal pilgrimage activity is expected to resume on October 8, barring any further weather-related disruptions.
