US Steps Up Pressure on Iran with New Strikes; Donald Trump Warns of Stronger Response if Maritime Attacks Continue

Washington (Rajeev Sharma): The United States has intensified its military campaign against Iran, carrying out another wave of strikes on strategic sites in the country’s south after accusing Tehran of endangering commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the latest operation targeted military infrastructure believed to support Iran’s ability to threaten international maritime routes. Officials described the mission as a response to recent attacks on civilian vessels transiting one of the world’s busiest energy corridors.

Iranian media reported loud explosions in several southern locations, including Bandar Abbas, Sirik, Jask, and parts of the Makran coast. Air defence units were activated shortly after the strikes, while emergency services were deployed in affected areas. Iranian authorities have yet to release an official assessment of casualties or damage.

US President Donald Trump defended the operation, saying Washington would continue to respond forcefully if commercial shipping remained under threat. He warned that any repeat of attacks on international vessels would invite an even tougher military reaction.

Military officials in Washington maintained that the objective was not to widen the conflict but to reduce Iran’s operational capabilities in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage for global oil and gas shipments.

The latest developments have also heightened security concerns across the Gulf. Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar activated precautionary measures after reports of missiles, drones and explosions emerged in different parts of the region. Several countries have increased surveillance around key infrastructure while monitoring the rapidly evolving situation.

Meanwhile, President Trump indicated that diplomatic channels remain open despite the renewed hostilities. Speaking to reporters, he claimed Iran had shown interest in resuming negotiations but questioned whether Tehran could be relied upon to honour any future agreement.

The latest exchange underscores the fragile security environment in West Asia, where military operations and diplomatic efforts continue to unfold simultaneously. With both sides maintaining firm positions, international observers fear that any further escalation around the Strait of Hormuz could have significant implications for regional stability and global energy markets.
