Chandigarh, December 5 — The Unity Mall coming up in Haryana’s Karnal is set to become a national hub for showcasing Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) products, especially items prepared under the ‘One District One Product’ (ODOP) initiative. The project, spread over 3.87 acres along the historic Grand Trunk Road in Sector-37 of the city’s industrial estate, is being built at a cost of ₹162.88 crore and is targeted for completion by July 2027.
Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi reviewed the progress of the Unity Mall project in Karnal, along with the construction status of two working women’s hostels being developed in Faridabad and Gurugram. Officials informed that excavation work is underway at a fast pace, marking a crucial step in the construction timeline. The Chief Secretary instructed departments to strictly adhere to the approved schedule and maintain top-quality standards throughout the project.
Developed with financial support from both the Central and State governments, the project benefits from excellent connectivity to Delhi, Chandigarh and major northern cities due to its location on the Grand Trunk Road. He added that Karnal’s growing prominence as an industrial and commercial centre, combined with its strategic position within the NCR, will amplify the economic impact of this initiative.
The Unity Mall is envisioned as a national platform for the exhibition and marketing of MSME products from across the country, particularly ODOP items. It is expected to help small entrepreneurs reduce marketing costs, enhance visibility in domestic and global markets, and create opportunities for new business collaborations.
Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) Managing Director Aditya Dahiya said the mall will also serve as a permanent exhibition centre for Haryana’s unique products, a business-to-business networking hub and a tourism attraction showcasing India’s diverse manufacturing strengths. The project aligns with the Centre’s emphasis on promoting indigenous industries, expanding market access and boosting inter-state trade with high-quality infrastructure.
Chief Secretary Rastogi directed HSIIDC and the MSME Directorate to ensure smooth coordination and appreciated efforts taken to resolve early challenges while keeping the pace of the project steady. He said the Unity Mall is a crucial investment in Haryana’s economic future, and the government is committed to completing it on time with superior quality.
During the review of working women’s hostels being built in Sector 78 of Faridabad and Sector 9 of Gurugram, the Chief Secretary stressed timely completion of these socially important facilities. He instructed teams to accelerate civil and structural works and ensure strict adherence to safety and quality standards.
Rastogi added that these hostels will provide safe, affordable and well-equipped accommodation for working women, particularly those who migrate to the NCR region for employment. Such facilities, he noted, play a vital role in enhancing women’s workforce participation by offering secure housing, modern amenities and proximity to major employment hubs.
