United Field Hockey Club Calgary Makes History by Hosting Calgary’s 8th International Field Hockey Tournament

Calgary(Rajeev Sharma): The 8th International Field Hockey Tournament, Alberta Cup 2025, organized by United Field Hockey Club Calgary, concluded on a high note on June 1 at Genesis Centre, Calgary.

The tournament made history as Calgary’s first-ever international field hockey event, drawing teams from Mexico, USA, and across Canada, including Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton, and the host city, Calgary. Under the leadership of main organizers Mandeep Jhally and Kanwal Dhillon, the event featured 28 teams competing across five divisions, Under-10, Under-13, Under-16, Masters 40+, and Men’s Premium Division. Under-13 and Host team United Calgary secured 1st place by defeating Panjab Sports Club 2-0 in the final. Under-16, United Calgary clinched 1st place, while Brampton Warriors finished 2nd. Anmol Jhalli was named Best Player in this category.


Masters 40+: Panjab Sports Club claimed 1st place, with USA taking 2nd. DC Janeja from the USA was awarded Best Player. In Men’s premium a thrilling final, Surinder Lions (Surrey) edged past United Calgary with a 4-3 win to capture the Alberta Cup 2025. Dildeep was awarded Tournament MVP, and Amar Singh Mangat received the Best Player Trophy. Under Community Events and Recognitions, a card game tournament (Taash Seep) was led by Uncle Bikkar Singh, with 32 teams participating. The team of Gagandeep Sidhu and Gurpreet Brar secured 1st place. Bikkar Singh received the United Community Award 2025. Tug of War was organized by Rana Hayer, with 6 teams participating. Shaheed Deep Singh Sidhu Club took 1st place. In cultural festivities, Jashan Gill and his team won hearts with their vibrant Bhangra performance. The lucky draw winner of a television was Amandeep Kaur. For their outstanding achievements in field hockey, Anmol Jhalli, Harkaran Palaha, Shaan Brar, and Pavambline Garewal were honored with the United Youth Award.


Special recognition was given to the club by Advisor Happy Mann along with other distinguished guests MPs Jasraj Hallam, Amanpreet Gill, Dalwinder Gill, MLAs Gurinder Brar and Parmmeet Boparai. Gurdwara DCC President Baljit Gill, Chairman Gurjeet Sidhu, Talwinder Parmar, Gurvinder Dhaliwal, Amandeep Rania and club members Manvir Gill, Kulwant Brar, Manvir Mangat, Bhupinder Singh, Ajmer Singh, Janpavitar Singh, Jaskaran Singh, Surinder Singh, Amandeep Singh, Jeevan Mangat, Gursewak Singh, Shalu Bajwa, Aman, Pinda, Jeevan, Arsh Mangat, Baljit, Jagdeep Gill, Shali, Babbu, Sukhdeep, Pratap, and Dharma Randhawa.
