Union Minister Manohar Lal Celebrates Diwali with the Needy at Bandhwari’s The Earth Saviours Foundation

Says spreading light in the lives of others is the true essence of Diwali

Chandigarh, October 19 — Union Minister for Power and Housing & Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal, celebrated Diwali with underprivileged residents at The Earth Saviours Foundation in Bandhwari, Gurugram, on Sunday. He spent time with senior citizens, differently-abled persons, and mentally challenged individuals residing at the shelter home.

The minister performed prayers at the temple within the premises and distributed sweets, prasad, and gifts among the residents. Lighting lamps in the ashram courtyard, he said the true spirit of Diwali is realized only when we bring light into the lives of those who have been left behind by society.

Interacting warmly with the residents, the minister inquired about their health, care, and living conditions. He emphasized that senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and mentally challenged individuals are a shared responsibility of both the government and society. “It is our moral duty to provide them love, safety, and dignity. Humanity’s greatest worship is service, and festivals like Diwali remind us that true happiness comes from sharing,” he said.

Highlighting the cultural value of respecting elders, Manohar Lal said that every person should honor their parents and elders and support them in times of need. “Our Indian culture is rooted in the spirit of Matridevo Bhava, Pitridevo Bhava, which teaches us compassion, sacrifice, and respect,” he added. He further stated that the central and Haryana governments are implementing several welfare schemes for senior citizens and destitute individuals to ensure their health, social security, and dignified living. “Light should not only illuminate homes but also hearts,” he remarked.

The minister praised The Earth Saviours Foundation for its humanitarian service, calling it an inspiring example of compassion and social responsibility. Extending Diwali greetings to all residents, he said the blessings of the elderly and differently-abled are the brightest light for society.

The event was also attended by Badshahpur SDM Sanjeev Singla, Sunil Sachdeva from Medanta Hospital, and Jas Kalra from The Earth Saviours Foundation management, along with several other dignitaries.
