New Delhi (Rajeev Sharma): The Union Budget 2026-27 introduced new initiatives aimed at empowering Divyangjans, reaffirming the government’s commitment to the vision of “Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas,” which seeks to provide every community, family, and sector with access to resources, opportunities, and meaningful participation. While presenting the Budget in Parliament, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman highlighted measures designed to create dignified livelihood opportunities and improve accessibility for persons with disabilities.
Under the Divyang Kaushal Yojana, customized training programs will be offered to Divyangjans in sectors such as information technology, animation, visual effects, gaming (AVGC), hospitality, and food and beverages. These industries, with their task-oriented and process-driven roles, are considered well-suited for Divyangjans. The program aims to provide industry-relevant skill development tailored to the specific needs of each group, ensuring dignified employment and enhancing their participation in the workforce.
The Budget also announced the Divyang Sahara Yojana, which focuses on providing timely access to high-quality assistive devices for all eligible Divyangjans. The initiative includes measures to support the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) in scaling up the production of assistive devices, investing in research and development, and integrating artificial intelligence technologies. Additionally, the government plans to strengthen existing PM Divyasha Kendras and set up Assistive Technology Marts as modern retail-style centers, where Divyangjans and senior citizens can explore, test, and purchase assistive products.
These initiatives aim to remove barriers to independence and participation for persons with disabilities while fostering skill development, employment opportunities, and technological accessibility. Finance Minister Sitharaman emphasized that by combining targeted training programs with improved access to assistive technology, the government is committed to empowering Divyangjans to lead productive and dignified lives.
