London (National Times) – UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has reaffirmed Britain’s unwavering support for Ukraine during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at 10 Downing Street.
Following their discussion, Starmer took to X (formerly Twitter) to emphasize the UK’s continued commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and security.
“It was an honour to welcome @ZelenskyyUa to Downing Street and reiterate my unwavering support for Ukraine,” Starmer wrote. “I am determined to find a path that ends Russia’s illegal war and ensures a just and lasting peace that secures Ukraine’s future sovereignty and security.”
He also shared a video of himself embracing Zelenskyy as he welcomed him inside, writing, “Action, not just words. Britain stands with Ukraine today and always.”
Key Discussions Ahead of European Summit
The meeting between Starmer and Zelenskyy comes just before a crucial European leaders’ summit, where reinforcing support for Ukraine and securing a lasting peace will be central topics of discussion.
Zelenskyy, who was greeted by crowds of supporters outside Downing Street, expressed his appreciation for the UK’s continued backing.
“London. A meaningful and warm meeting with the Prime Minister,” Zelenskyy stated.
Context: Tensions with the Trump Administration
The meeting in London comes just a day after Zelenskyy’s tense exchange with former U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House, where U.S. support for Ukraine was a key point of contention.
While Britain continues to stand firmly behind Ukraine, uncertainty remains over the future of U.S. military aid, making European support even more critical in the coming months.
