U.S. decision to impose tariffs on Canadian imports is “unjustified”: Mark Carney

Calgary (Rajeev Sharma): Liberal MP George Chahal organized a public address in Calgary to endorse Mark Carney in his bid for the leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada. Carney, who previously served as Governor of both the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England, has been actively engaging with Canadians on key issues, including Canada’s economic future and national challenges.

During a media interview today, Carney addressed the topic of U.S. tariffs on Canadian imports, urging that any retaliatory measures be carefully crafted to prioritize the support of workers affected by these “unjustified” tariffs.

He emphasized the need for policies that not only protect Canadian industries but also help mitigate the impact on individuals. Later in the evening, Carney participated in a fundraising event titled “An Evening with Mark Carney in Calgary.”

At this event, he shared his vision for the future of Canada, focusing on how his leadership could strengthen the Canadian economy, tackle pressing national issues, and foster greater resilience in the face of global challenges.

The event, attended by supporters including MP Chahal, immigration minister honourable Mark Miller marked a significant moment in Carney’s leadership campaign as he seeks to build momentum and garner support across the country.

These engagements in Calgary reflect Carney’s proactive approach as he campaigns for the leadership of Canada’s Liberal Party, aiming to position himself as a leader capable of navigating complex international trade issues and guiding the nation toward a resilient economic future.
