Two Suspects Arrested with RPG in Amritsar, Punjab Police Thwart Terror Attack

Amritsar (Gurpreet Singh): In a major counter-terrorism success, the Amritsar Rural Police, in collaboration with central intelligence agencies, arrested two individuals suspected of planning a terrorist attack in the region. The accused, identified as Mehakdeep Singh (also known as Mehak) and Aditya (alias Adhi), were apprehended in Amritsar after authorities uncovered a dangerous weapon cache, including a Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG).

The RPG, a highly potent weapon commonly used in terror strikes, was seized in a preemptive operation. According to law enforcement sources, the weapon had been smuggled into India from Pakistan through a network coordinated by operatives linked to Pakistan’s ISI (Inter-Services Intelligence). The arrested suspects were reportedly in regular contact with these foreign operatives and with Harpreet Singh (alias Vicky), a key figure currently incarcerated in Ferozepur Jail, who allegedly played a crucial role in the weapon’s transfer.

Initial investigations suggest that the RPG was intended for use in a targeted attack within Punjab. However, the prompt action by the Amritsar Rural Police, aided by central intelligence agencies, ensured that the plot was foiled before it could unfold. A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed at Police Station Gharinda, and a thorough investigation is underway to trace the full extent of the terror network behind this operation.

“The recovery of such a dangerous weapon highlights the ongoing threat posed by terror groups operating in the region with the backing of external forces,” a senior Punjab Police official stated. “Our coordination with central agencies has enabled us to act swiftly and prevent a potential attack.”

The police are now focused on identifying the broader network involved in this operation, with an emphasis on uncovering further links to organized crime and terror operations allegedly being directed by Pakistan’s intelligence agencies. The authorities have confirmed that efforts will continue to track down other potential operatives connected to the plot.

The Punjab Police has vowed to remain resolute in its commitment to protecting citizens from the threat of terrorism and ensuring the peace and stability of the state. Authorities emphasized that the operation marks a significant victory in the fight against transnational terror networks, which have been targeting Punjab for several years.

“The relentless efforts of Punjab Police, together with our central partners, will continue to focus on dismantling such terror cells and maintaining the security of our state,” the official added.

This operation is a part of an ongoing series of counter-terrorism initiatives by the Punjab Police, which remains vigilant against the growing threat of foreign-backed terrorism and organized criminal syndicates seeking to destabilize the region.
