Two Suspected Criminals Injured in Police Encounter After Attempted Escape in Amritsar

Amritsar, February 10, 2025: Two suspected criminals, allegedly linked to the recent blast outside the non-functional Fatehgarh police post, were injured in a brief encounter with the police after attempting to escape custody on Sunday night. The suspects, identified as Karandeep Singh and Buta Singh, are believed to be part of a terror module connected to gangster-turned-terrorist Harpreet Singh, also known as Happy Passian.

The incident took place near the Rajasansi area of Amritsar around 11 PM. Acting on a tip-off about the movement of three suspects involved in the Fatehgarh Churian blast, police teams swiftly apprehended Lovepreet Singh, Karandeep Singh, and Buta Singh, all residents of Amritsar’s rural belt. However, while in custody, Karandeep and Buta allegedly attempted to escape by snatching the pistol of ASI Gurjit Singh. A brief exchange of gunfire followed when the suspects opened fire on the police, leading to both Karandeep and Buta sustaining injuries.

Following the encounter, police recovered an AK-47 rifle, a .30-bore Glock pistol, and a .32-bore pistol from the suspects. Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, who reached the scene, confirmed that the trio was part of a terror module associated with Happy Passian. Initial investigations revealed that the suspects had received explosives used in the February 3 blast outside the Fatehgarh Churian police post, with Buta Singh reportedly responsible for recruiting Lovepreet and Karandeep under Happy Passian’s instructions.

The injured suspects are currently receiving medical treatment under police custody, and investigations are ongoing to identify other members of the terror network and trace the supply chain of explosives. In response to the incident, security measures have been intensified across Amritsar, with increased surveillance in sensitive areas, heightened security checks, and coordination with intelligence agencies to track down potential threats.

The police have assured that they remain vigilant and committed to dismantling the terror network associated with Happy Passian, emphasizing their dedication to maintaining law and order in the region.
