Amritsar (National Times): In a significant breakthrough, the Amritsar Rural Police have arrested two individuals suspected of being involved in espionage activities linked to Pakistan’s notorious intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
The arrested suspects have been identified as Gurpreet Singh, also known as Gopy Foji, and Sahil Masih, also known as Shali. The arrests were made following a major intelligence-based operation aimed at dismantling a suspected cross-border spy network operating within Punjab.
According to preliminary investigations, Gurpreet Singh is believed to have been in direct communication with ISI operatives, allegedly sharing sensitive and confidential information via pen drives. The ISI handler in question has been identified as Rana Javed, a known operative of Pakistan’s military intelligence wing.
As part of the operation, police recovered two mobile phones suspected to have been used for communication with ISI contacts. Forensic analysis of the devices is currently underway.
Senior police officials confirmed that a wider investigation has been launched to trace the full extent of the espionage network and identify any additional collaborators who may be operating in or outside the state.
“This is a serious national security matter,” a police spokesperson said. “We are committed to safeguarding the sovereignty and integrity of our nation. Any individual or group involved in anti-national activities will face the full force of the law.”
The arrests come amid rising concerns over ISI-backed attempts to destabilize internal security through espionage, infiltration, and support to terror networks in India, particularly in the sensitive border state of Punjab.
The Punjab Police have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. Further details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
