Two Dead, One Injured in Diwali Journey Cut Short by Hit-and-Run in Etah

Etah (Rajeev Sharma): A Diwali homecoming turned tragic late Saturday night when a motorcycle carrying three men was struck by an unidentified vehicle in Etah district, resulting in the deaths of two riders and serious injuries to the third.

The incident took place near Aspur village in the Malavan police station area. According to Station House Officer Rohit Rathi, the victims — all returning from Gurugram to their hometowns for Diwali — were hit by a speeding vehicle that fled the scene without stopping.

The sudden impact caused the motorbike to skid off the road, throwing all three riders to the ground. Locals alerted police after discovering the men lying injured. Responders quickly arrived at the scene and transported them to the district’s Avantibai Medical College.

Doctors declared two of the men — Anuj (50), a resident of Hardoi, and Abhishek Maurya (55) from Raniyan village in Mau district — dead upon arrival. The third rider, Sanjay, sustained critical injuries and remains under medical supervision.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. The families of the deceased have been informed, and the bodies were sent for post-mortem examinations.

SHO Rathi stated that surveillance footage from nearby locations is being reviewed in an effort to identify the vehicle involved. “We are checking CCTV cameras in the area and trying to gather eyewitness accounts. The driver responsible will be found,” he said.

The fatal crash has shocked the local community and serves as a grim reminder of the risks posed by reckless driving and hit-and-run incidents, particularly during festival travel when roads are busier than usual.
