Two Bihar Minors Detained in Surat with Cannabis Worth Rs 4.54 Lakh

Surat (Gurpreet Singh): Surat police on Sunday, March 22, 2026, detained two 17-year-old boys for allegedly smuggling a large consignment of cannabis into Gujarat. Acting on a specific tip-off, a team from the Udhana police station intercepted the duo on Saturday evening near the L N Park Society in the Udhana Bhathena area. The minors, who had reportedly travelled from Bihar, were heading toward the M-4 market to deliver the contraband when they were apprehended by officials.

During the search, police recovered 9.08 kg of ganja (cannabis) from the possession of the teenagers. According to Inspector S N Desai of the Udhana police station, the seized narcotics are valued at approximately ₹4.54 lakh in the illicit market. In addition to the contraband, investigators seized two mobile phones from the minors, which are currently being analysed to trace the larger network of suppliers and intended recipients involved in this interstate drug trafficking route.

A formal case has been registered against the two boys under the stringent provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Given their age, the suspects have been moved to a children’s remand home following a preliminary medical examination. Local authorities have noted an increasing trend of using minors as “mules” for drug transport to evade suspicion at transit points, and a deeper investigation is currently underway to identify the “kingpins” behind this specific operation.
