National Times Bureau, May 12, 2025– U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a strong statement amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, saying that if the two nations do not maintain a ceasefire, there will be no trade.
Addressing a program at the White House, Trump said the United States is ready to help both countries in matters of trade and peace. He credited his administration with playing a key role in easing tensions and helping both sides reach a ceasefire agreement. “I’m proud to say the leadership of both India and Pakistan was firm, wise, and patient. They understood the seriousness of the situation,” Trump said.
He emphasized that trade was a major factor in his efforts to de-escalate conflict. “On Saturday, my administration helped secure an immediate ceasefire between India and Pakistan. I believe it will be permanent—these are nations with a lot of nuclear weapons,” he added.
Trump confirmed that the U.S. is actively engaging with both countries. “We’re going to trade with Pakistan. We’re going to expand trade with India. Talks with India are ongoing, and discussions with Pakistan will begin soon,” he said.
He also claimed that a major nuclear conflict was averted. “It could have been a terrible nuclear war. Millions could have died. I want to thank Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio for their role in this,” Trump concluded.
