Washington, June 21, 2025 — U.S. President Donald Trump has once again expressed disappointment over being overlooked for the Nobel Peace Prize, even as he took credit for helping de-escalate some of the world’s most dangerous conflicts.
In a post on his platform, Truth Social, Trump wrote, “I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for this, I won’t get it for stopping the war between India and Pakistan, or my efforts in the Russia-Ukraine and Israel-Iran conflicts.” He added that even his administration’s role in brokering peace between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo is unlikely to earn him the prestigious honour.
Trump’s remarks come after Pakistan formally announced its intention to nominate him for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize. Islamabad praised Trump for his “instrumental” role in facilitating a ceasefire with India in May, citing his behind-the-scenes diplomacy as a key factor in avoiding all-out war.
The former president has long sought international recognition for his global mediation efforts. He frequently cites the Abraham Accords, his outreach to North Korea, and now his recent involvement in Middle East and South Asian peace negotiations. Despite this, the Nobel Committee has not acknowledged Trump’s efforts to date.
In recent weeks, Trump has also sent high-level envoys to help de-escalate the Israel-Iran conflict, and held calls with leaders in Ukraine and Russia amid ongoing tensions. However, critics argue that his approach often prioritizes quick, high-visibility wins over long-term strategic solutions.
While Trump claims his administration has helped save thousands of lives through diplomatic interventions, international observers suggest that the Nobel Committee tends to reward multilateral cooperation and verifiable outcomes—criteria Trump’s initiatives sometimes lack.
Nevertheless, his supporters continue to tout his foreign policy achievements, and the recent peace efforts have boosted his standing among conservative voters ahead of the 2026 midterms.
