Trump Cuts G7 Visit Short, Urges Evacuation of Tehran Amid Escalating Israel-Iran War

Kananaskis, June 17 — U.S. President Donald Trump abruptly ended his participation in the G7 Summit in Canada on Monday and returned to Washington, citing the rapidly intensifying Israel-Iran conflict. His departure followed an urgent plea for civilians in Tehran to evacuate immediately, warning that the situation could spiral into catastrophic violence.

Trump’s decision came after reports of Israel issuing a mass alert to over 300,000 residents in Tehran ahead of potential missile strikes. The U.S. President described the escalating war as “very, very dangerous” and emphasized that Iranian civilians must move to safety without delay. “I urge everyone in Tehran to evacuate immediately. Human life is paramount, and this should have been avoided long ago,” Trump said, referencing what he called a “shameful” delay in global efforts to deter Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

Trump confirmed that the White House Situation Room would now serve as the new hub for U.S. strategy discussions related to the Middle East crisis. He also hinted that back-channel diplomacy was being considered, but stressed that time was running out. “Iran must come to the table. There’s still a sliver of time to stop this from turning into something irreversible,” he added in a late-night post on Truth Social.

While most G7 leaders remained in Alberta to finalize a joint statement on global conflict de-escalation, Trump refused to sign it, arguing it lacked strong enough language against Iran’s nuclear pursuits. Despite his early exit, he praised Israel for what he called “measured restraint” under extraordinary provocation and reiterated Washington’s commitment to Israel’s right to self-defense.

Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron noted that ceasefire proposals were being quietly circulated and Trump’s exit, while dramatic, may push Tehran to reconsider negotiations. “We hope it sends a message that diplomacy is still an option,” Macron said.

The President is also expected to meet with key leaders including Mexico’s Claudia Sheinbaum and Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelenskyy during his transit back to Washington, where a high-level national security briefing is scheduled. The situation remains fluid, and analysts warn any miscalculation could ignite a full-scale regional war.
