New Delhi (Rajeev Sharma): India has taken another significant step towards strengthening its strategic defence capabilities with the successful completion of three consecutive missile flight tests conducted by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The trials showcased the country’s growing ability to counter advanced aerial threats while also enhancing its maritime strike potential.
The series of tests demonstrated a robust multi-layered defence mechanism designed to intercept long-range ballistic missiles. Defence experts view the achievement as a major advancement in India’s indigenous missile defence programme, capable of responding to evolving security challenges.
In a parallel milestone, DRDO also carried out the maiden flight test of the Naval Anti-Ship Missile (Medium Range), validating its capability to engage hostile warships at sea. The successful demonstration is expected to significantly strengthen the operational reach of the Indian Navy in safeguarding maritime interests.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the DRDO team and described the tests as a landmark achievement for the nation. He stated that all interceptor systems accurately engaged their designated targets, reflecting the reliability of technologies developed entirely within the country.
The Defence Minister further emphasised that the newly developed systems are equipped with advanced technologies designed to tackle emerging missile threats. He noted that the successful trials have placed India among a select group of nations possessing the capability to intercept ballistic missiles, including those with intercontinental ranges.
The successful validation of the medium-range naval missile also underlines India’s expanding focus on strengthening maritime security in addition to land-based defence. The capability is expected to provide a strategic advantage by enabling precision engagement of hostile vessels over considerable distances.
The back-to-back successes reinforce India’s commitment to self-reliance in defence technology and highlight the rapid progress of indigenous research and development. With these achievements, the country continues to build a stronger and more sophisticated security architecture capable of addressing future battlefield challenges across land and sea.
