Tragedy in Vrindavan: Boat Capsizes in Yamuna, Several Feared Dead

Vrindavan, (Rajeev Sharma): A tragic boating accident in the holy town of Vrindavan has claimed several lives after a passenger boat capsized in the Yamuna River near the renowned Keshi Ghat on Friday, sending shockwaves across the country.

The boat, carrying around 25 to 30 pilgrims, many believed to be visitors from Punjab, reportedly lost balance and overturned midstream. Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic as passengers struggled to stay afloat in the river’s strong currents.

At least 10 people have been confirmed dead, while more than a dozen passengers were rescued by local residents and emergency teams. Several individuals are still missing, and search operations are ongoing. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), along with local police and divers, are conducting intensive rescue efforts in the area.

Preliminary reports suggest that the accident may have been caused by a combination of factors, including possible overcrowding, sudden strong winds, and a suspected collision with a floating structure or pontoon bridge. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause and to examine whether safety norms were violated.

The injured were rushed to hospitals in Mathura, where several are said to be in critical condition. Medical teams are working round the clock to provide treatment to the survivors.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed deep grief over the incident and directed officials to ensure swift rescue and relief operations. He also announced compensation for the families of the deceased and assured full support to those affected.

This heartbreaking incident has once again raised serious concerns over boating safety and regulation in religious tourist destinations, especially in high-footfall areas like Vrindava
