Traffic Chaos in Zirakpur as President Droupadi Murmu’s Convoy Passes Through

Heavy Traffic Disruptions Due to Security Measures in Chandigarh

Chandigarh/Zirakpur, March 10: President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Chandigarh today as part of her three-day visit to Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh, which will continue until March 12. During her visit, she is scheduled to attend and address various programs in the city.

On Monday evening, as soon as the President’s convoy reached Chandigarh, the city’s traffic police halted movement at the old airport lights to ensure a smooth passage. This led to a massive traffic jam in Zirakpur, causing significant inconvenience for commuters. Despite the disruption, Chandigarh police assured that necessary measures, including route diversions, would be implemented to manage traffic flow efficiently during the President’s stay.

Security arrangements were tightened along the route from the airport to Punjab Raj Bhavan, with police personnel deployed on both sides of the road. Additionally, snipers were stationed atop key buildings to enhance security.

On March 11, President Murmu will visit Bathinda, where Punjab Police has already reinforced security arrangements ahead of her arrival. She will conclude her visit on March 12 after attending the 72nd convocation of Panjab University (PU) before returning to Delhi. Meanwhile, major roads in Chandigarh, including Sector 7, also experienced heavy congestion due to the movement restrictions.
