Toronto Braces for Fresh Snowfall and Deep Freeze After Major Winter Storm

Toronto (Rajeev Sharma): Toronto is set for another round of wintry weather this week, with fresh snowfall and sharply colder temperatures forecast in the aftermath of a storm that dumped up to 40 centimeters of snow in parts of the city.

Meteorologists say an Alberta Clipper system is expected to move into the region early Wednesday morning, bringing light snow by around 7 a.m. The system is likely to leave about five centimeters of accumulation by Wednesday night.

Following last week’s historic snowfall, residents are now facing biting wind chills and persistent cold. Tuesday’s daytime high is expected to reach around –9 C, though wind chill values are making it feel significantly colder, dipping to near –23 in the morning and –18 by the afternoon.

Periods of sunshine mixed with clouds are expected, along with the possibility of isolated flurries as lingering lake-effect snow bands move south from Lake Huron and Georgian Bay.

Temperatures may briefly moderate as Wednesday’s system passes through, with highs approaching the freezing mark. However, colder air is forecast to return quickly, pushing wind chills back down. On Wednesday, the city is expected to feel like –17 in the morning and –8 by the afternoon.

The remainder of the week will remain firmly in winter’s grip, with daytime highs forecast at –5 C on Thursday, –9 C on Friday, –12 C on Saturday and –10 C on Sunday. Overnight wind chills late Friday and Saturday could plunge into the –30s, particularly near Pearson International Airport.

City officials have responded to the cold snap by opening additional warming centers to support vulnerable residents.
