Chamba, Himachal Pradesh (Rajeev Sharma): A late-night road accident in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district claimed three lives and left two others critically injured after their vehicle plunged into a deep gorge on Wednesday.

Police said the incident took place on the Devikoti–Tepa road in the Churah assembly constituency, when the vehicle carrying five people veered off the hilly road and tumbled nearly 200 meters down the slope. The group was reportedly returning home after attending a wedding ceremony.

The deceased have been identified as Rajinder Kumar, who was driving, Pammi Kumar, and Sachin — all residents of Chamba. The injured, Amar Singh and Dharam Singh, were first taken to the Civil Hospital in Teesa and later referred to Chamba Medical College for further treatment due to the severity of their injuries.

Local villagers rushed to the scene soon after the accident, carrying out a rescue operation and informing the authorities. Police teams arrived shortly after and helped retrieve the bodies and rescue the injured.

Officials said that a case has been registered, and the matter is under investigation to determine what led to the accident. The bodies of the deceased will be handed over to their families after the post-mortem examination.

The tragic incident has once again highlighted the recurring danger of accidents on Himachal’s steep, winding roads. Locals have called for better road maintenance and stronger safety measures to prevent such mishaps in the future.
