Srinagar (National Times): Pakistan’s unprovoked artillery shelling and firing across the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir claimed the lives of over 10 innocent civilians during the night of May 6-7, 2025. The Indian Army condemned the indiscriminate attack, stating that it is responding proportionately to Pakistan’s aggressive actions, which followed India’s ‘Operation Sindoor’ targeting terror bases.
The Pakistani shelling targeted multiple posts opposite J&K, disrupting civilian areas and causing widespread fear. “During the night of 06-07 May 2025, the Pakistan Army resorted to arbitrary firing, including artillery shelling from posts across the Line of Control and IB opposite J&K. Over 10 innocent civilians lost their lives in indiscriminate firing/shelling. Indian Army is responding in a proportionate manner,” the Indian Army said in a statement.
The attack comes hours after India’s ‘Operation Sindoor,’ a military operation that saw missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), including a Jaish-e-Mohammad stronghold in Bahawalpur, and the downing of a Pakistani JF-17 fighter jet in Pulwama’s Pampore. The operation was launched in response to a terror attack in Pahalgam two weeks prior.
Local authorities have reported heightened alertness in border villages, urging residents to take shelter. The Indian Army’s calibrated response aims to neutralize Pakistani aggression while minimizing further escalation. The incident has reignited concerns over ceasefire violations, with the Indian Army reiterating its commitment to safeguarding national security and countering terrorism.
A detailed briefing on ‘Operation Sindoor’ is scheduled for later today, as the region braces for potential further tensions along the volatile border.
