Mohali (Gurpreet Singh): Punjab Police scored a major success against terrorism after unearthing a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) module in Mohali. Three men from Jammu and Kashmir have been taken into custody for their role in the abduction and murder of local taxi driver Anil Kumar.
The breakthrough came after Kumar’s vehicle was forcibly taken when he was hired for a ride from Kharar. Soon after, his phone went silent, raising red flags. Police swung into action, forming multiple teams to track the culprits. Within hours, all three accused were arrested.
During questioning, the suspects revealed they shot the driver following an argument and later dumped his body in the Mohali region. Officers have since recovered the cab along with a .32 bore pistol believed to have been used in the crime. A search is still underway to trace the victim’s remains.
Those arrested have been identified as Sahil Bashir, Munish Singh alias Ansh, and Aijaz Ahmad alias Wasim. Investigators say that Bashir is already wanted in a terror-related case in Handwara, J&K, while his brother Aijaz has earlier been caught with arms and supplies linked to JeM. Both brothers are known as Over Ground Workers (OGWs) for the militant outfit.
Police officials stressed that this swift operation demonstrates Punjab’s zero tolerance towards extremist activity. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the broader network and ensure that such plots find no ground in the state.
