National Times Bureau :- Tanda police have intensified action in the Baljit Singh alias Billa murder case, registering additional charges against the prime accused after he allegedly opened fire while attempting to evade arrest. The latest development marks a significant escalation in the investigation surrounding the killing that shook the Tanda area.
According to police officials, the main accused, Lakhwinder Singh alias Maninder Singh, a resident of Khadyala Sainiyan village, was already booked for murder in connection with the killing of Baljit Singh Billa at Adda Kaloa village. Now, police have also registered a case against him under the Arms Act and for obstructing government duty.
DSP Tanda Davinder Singh Bajwa stated that the fresh case has been registered on the statement of SHO Tanda Inspector Gurinderjit Singh Nagra. The SHO told police that on the evening of December 19, when a police team attempted to arrest the accused, he tried to flee near Benchaan Chotala village and allegedly fired at the pursuing police party using a revolver.
Police retaliated in self-defence, during which Lakhwinder Singh sustained serious injuries. He was immediately taken to the Civil Hospital in Dasuya, where he is currently undergoing treatment. Police confirmed that the accused remains in custody while receiving medical care.
Officials said the accused will be produced before a court for further legal proceedings once medically fit. The police have also begun a detailed interrogation to uncover the complete sequence of events, the motive behind the murder, and whether more individuals were involved in the crime.
The Tanda murder case has drawn widespread attention in the region, and police say further arrests or disclosures cannot be ruled out as the investigation progresses.
