India’s First Vande Bharat Sleeper Train to Be Launched in January 2026

New Delhi (Rajeev Sharma): Indian Railways is set to begin a new chapter in long-distance rail travel with the launch of the first Vande Bharat Sleeper Train later this month. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the much-awaited sleeper version of the Vande Bharat train will be introduced as part of the New Year initiatives for passengers. The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, is expected to flag off the inaugural service in the second half of January 2026. Varanasi/ New Delhi (Rajeev Sharma): India’s high-speed rail ambitions received another push on Saturday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated four new Vande Bharat Express trains from Varanasi, taking the total count of semi-high-speed services in the country past 160.
