Prime Minister Mark Carney to Reside at Rideau Cottage Following Decommissioning of 24 Sussex Drive

Ottawa, May 5 — Prime Minister Mark Carney will take up residence at Rideau Cottage, situated on the grounds of Rideau Hall, as the federal government proceeds with the decommissioning of 24 Sussex Drive, the traditional official residence of Canadian prime ministers.  The National Capital Commission (NCC) has determined that 24 Sussex Drive is no longer suitable for occupancy due to its deteriorating condition and the extensive renovations required to meet modern safety and environmental standards.   The building has been vacant since 2015, when then-Prime Minister Justin Trudeau opted to reside at Rideau Cottage instead.
