Surrey Police to Release Update on Most-Wanted Fugitive Rabih Alkhalil

Surrey, B.C. (Rajeev Sharma)— Authorities in British Columbia are preparing to release new details about the case of Rabih Alkhalil, a twice-convicted murderer who has evaded capture for over three years.

The RCMP’s Federal Policing Pacific Region and the B.C. Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit announced that they will hold a press conference later today to share developments in the ongoing investigation.

Alkhalil escaped custody from the North Fraser Pretrial Centre in Port Coquitlam in July 2022 while standing trial for the 2012 gang-related shooting of a rival inside a crowded Vancouver restaurant. Despite his escape, a jury later convicted him in absentia.

This was not his first conviction. In 2017, he was found guilty of first-degree murder in Ontario for the fatal shooting of a man inside a Toronto coffee shop.

In an effort to track him down, Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers partnered with the national Be On The Look Out Program last year, offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to his arrest. Investigators revealed that Alkhalil’s 2022 prison break was orchestrated with the help of two accomplices disguised as contractors.

Alkhalil remains one of Canada’s most wanted fugitives and is also the subject of an Interpol Red Notice, making him internationally sought by law enforcement agencies.
