Surrey (Rajeev Sharma): Surrey mayoral candidate Honveer Randhawa says residents are increasingly worried about public safety, affordability, and accountability at City Hall, and believes the city needs a new direction.
Speaking to National Times Media Group, Randhawa said public safety would be his top priority if elected mayor. He called for increased police visibility, stronger action against organized crime and extortion threats targeting businesses, and improved safety around SkyTrain stations and transit hubs.
He also stressed the importance of responsible development, arguing that Surrey’s rapid growth must be matched by investments in roads, community services, and public infrastructure. On affordability, Randhawa pledged to reduce wasteful spending and focus taxpayer dollars on core services such as safety, infrastructure, and community programs.
Addressing homelessness and addiction, he advocated for a balanced approach combining compassion with public order through stronger partnerships with provincial health agencies. Randhawa further emphasized the need for a more transparent and responsive City Hall, stating that residents deserve leadership that listens to their concerns.
“Surrey needs a shift toward accountability and public safety-first governance,” Randhawa said. “When residents feel safe and heard, the entire city benefits.”
