Suraksha Initiative at University of Calgary to Combat Hinduphobia and Hate Crimes

Calgary (Rajeev Sharma): The Coalition of Hindus of North America (CoHNA), in collaboration with the CoHNA Youth Action Network (CYAN), the University of Calgary, and the Calgary Police Service’s Hate Crime Prevention Team, will host an awareness event entitled “Suraksha: Combating Hinduphobia and Addressing Hate Crimes.”

The program is scheduled for Thursday, October 2, 2025, from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM at Hunter Student Commons, University of Calgary, with gates opening at 4:00 PM.
The event will feature discussions on raising awareness about Hinduphobia, tackling hate crimes, and building stronger community-police partnerships.
Organizers state that the initiative aims to create safer, more inclusive spaces for students and community members while fostering dialogue with law enforcement. Attendees are encouraged to register at https://links.cohna.org/suraksha-UofC. Light refreshments will be served.
The event is supported by HSC International and the Hindu Foundation.
