New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday cancelled the bail of former Indian wrestler and two-time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar in the 2021 murder case of junior wrestler Sagar Dhankhar. The court has ordered him to surrender within a week.
The decision overturns an earlier Delhi High Court order granting bail to Kumar. The apex court acted after concerns were raised by the victim’s family, who alleged that witnesses and relatives had faced pressure to settle the matter outside court.
Sagar Dhankhar died in May 2021 following a violent assault at Delhi’s Chhatrasal Stadium, in which Sushil Kumar is the prime accused. The Supreme Court’s order is seen as a crucial move in advancing the investigation and ensuring justice in the high-profile case.
