Mumbai, July 16, 2025 — James Gunn’s Superman is flying high at the Indian box office, outpacing recent Bollywood releases to emerge as the top cinematic choice for audiences this week. The superhero film, led by David Corenswet in his debut as the Man of Steel, has collected ₹33.43 crore in India within six days of release.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film added ₹1.83 crore on Day 6, continuing a steady streak after its impressive ₹7.25 crore opening. Over the first weekend, Superman raked in more than ₹18 crore, with weekday numbers holding reasonably well despite the usual dip.
The film’s Indian performance stands in stark contrast to recent domestic films. Rajkummar Rao’s Maalik is still crawling towards the ₹20 crore mark, while Vikrant Massey’s Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyaan has struggled to find traction. Shanaya Kapoor’s much-hyped debut has been a non-starter, with earnings yet to touch ₹2 crore.
Globally, Superman is a juggernaut, minting over $200 million in its opening weekend. As the first installment in Gunn’s new DC Universe, the film has been praised by critics and fans alike for its fresh tone and grounded storytelling.
Alongside Corenswet, the ensemble cast includes Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced in key roles. However, Indian audiences are watching a slightly censored version of the film the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) removed a 33-second kiss and trimmed two romantic visuals from the final cut.
Despite these cuts, the film’s strong reception suggests Indian viewers are embracing this revamped take on the iconic superhero.
