Sunil Jakhar Urges Akali Unity at Dhindsa’s Bhog, Calls It True Tribute to Punjab’s Stalwart

“Punjab Needs Recognition, Not Just Packages”: Sunil Jakhar Clarifies BJP-Akali Remarks, Calls for Trust-Building with Punjabis

Sangrur, Punjab – In a powerful message at the Bhog ceremony of veteran leader Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, BJP Punjab President Sunil Jakhar made an impassioned appeal for unity among all Akali factions. As leaders across party lines gathered to pay their final respects, Jakhar said that the true tribute to Dhindsa would be to “rise above egos and internal differences” and form a united front for the welfare of Punjab and the Sikh community.

Jakhar stressed that Punjab stands at a critical juncture, and only a strong, regional, panthic (community-centric) voice can safeguard its legacy and interests. Referring to Dhindsa’s lifelong commitment to Sikh values and Punjab’s development, he said, “Let this not be just a ceremonial farewell let his legacy guide us to rebuild what is broken.”

His remarks echoed the sentiments of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal, who revealed that Dhindsa himself had wished for unity among Sikh leaders before his death. The ceremony was attended by senior members from SAD, BJP, SGPC, AAP, Congress, and other regional parties underscoring Dhindsa’s wide respect and the urgency of Jakhar’s call.

The event, held in Ubhawal village of Sangrur district, witnessed emotional scenes as the political class put aside partisanship to honour a man who spent over six decades shaping Punjab’s political landscape. Jakhar’s statement, which he also shared on X, highlighted the danger of continued divisions, warning that Punjab “may once again slip into dark times” if leaders don’t prioritize collective good over personal ambitions.

As the state prepares for future political contests and socio-economic challenges, the message from Dhindsa’s farewell gathering was clear: only unity rooted in purpose not symbolism can truly carry his legacy forward.
