Sunil Jakhar Highlights Broken Seats on IndiGo Flight, Raises Safety Concerns

New Delhi, February 24, 2025 – Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar has raised concerns over broken seats on a Chandigarh-Delhi IndiGo flight, sharing photos of the issue on social media. His complaint comes a day after Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan flagged a similar problem on an Air India flight from Bhopal to Delhi.
Jakhar posted on X (formerly Twitter), stating that while the IndiGo cabin crew was polite, they were unable to address the issue and advised him to lodge a complaint through the airline’s website.

Jakhar Criticizes Airlines’ Approach to Safety

“It seems broken seats, as pointed out by Shivraj Singh Chouhan, are not exclusive to Air India,” Jakhar wrote, adding that his IndiGo flight on January 27 had several seats with loose cushions, failing to meet safety regulations.
He urged the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to ensure that airlines do not adopt a ‘chalta hai’ (casual) attitude toward safety norms in aircraft servicing and maintenance.

IndiGo Responds, Defends Seat Design

IndiGo quickly responded to Jakhar’s concerns, explaining that their seats are designed with removable cushions secured by Velcro for easy cleaning and maintenance.
“On rare occasions, they may come loose and require repositioning,” IndiGo stated, assuring that safety remains a priority and that their seat design meets all safety requirements.

Jakhar’s complaint has sparked a broader discussion on airline safety standards, particularly regarding maintenance and passenger comfort on domestic flights.
