Chandigarh, August 8: On the auspicious occasion of Goswami Tulsidas Jayanti, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini hosted a state-level ceremony at Sant Kabir Kutir, his official residence, on Friday. The event witnessed participation from prominent representatives of the Goswami community and a large gathering from across the state.
Fulfilling a key demand of the community, the Chief Minister announced that the Haryana government would write to the OBC Commission recommending the inclusion of the Goswami community in the Central OBC list.
Additionally, he declared that one major square in the state and a new library in Hisar would be named after Goswami Tulsidas Ji. He also pledged ₹31 lakh from his discretionary fund for the under-construction Dharmashala of Goswami Samaj Sabha in Kurukshetra.
Highlighting Tulsidas Ji’s contribution, CM Saini said the saint-poet was not only a literary genius but also a visionary who, through the Ramcharitmanas, spread the ideals of Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram during a time of social despair and moral decline. “His teachings remain timeless and inspire humanity worldwide,” Saini noted.
The CM emphasised the Modi government’s commitment to OBC welfare, citing constitutional status for the National Backward Classes Commission, expanded reservations in education, and Haryana’s decision to increase the creamy layer income limit from ₹6 lakh to ₹8 lakh annually.
He detailed various welfare measures, including reservations for Backward Class A and B categories in Panchayati Raj institutions and urban local bodies, concessional education loans of up to ₹15 lakh in India and ₹20 lakh abroad, and scholarships under the Dr. Ambedkar Medhavi Chhatra Yojana.
Criticising previous regimes, Saini remarked that earlier governments prioritised the progress of “just one family” while exploiting others. He compared this to colonial oppression and asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has, for the first time, given genuine respect to the OBC community.
The event also honoured meritorious students from the Goswami community who excelled in their Class 10 and 12 examinations.
Calling for unity, CM Saini urged the Goswami community to guide the youth toward becoming responsible citizens and active contributors to nation-building.
