SpiceJet to Add 100 Daily Flights as Winter Travel Demand Rises Amid IndiGo Turbulence

New Delhi, December 10, 2025— SpiceJet has announced plans to introduce up to 100 additional daily flights during the ongoing winter schedule, stepping in to expand capacity as IndiGo’s operational disruptions continue to strain India’s aviation network. The airline said the surge in demand on major routes has prompted the decision, with new flights set to roll out once regulatory approval is secured.

The carrier said it aims to ensure reliable connectivity and maintain stability during the peak travel season. Over the past two months, SpiceJet has strengthened its fleet by bringing 17 aircraft into active service through a mix of damp-leased planes and the return of its own grounded jets. The airline said the renewed fleet gives it more room to increase capacity on high-traffic routes and build resilience into its network.

SpiceJet noted that its current strategy focuses on inducting more aircraft, improving utilisation and fine-tuning route planning to enhance connectivity across the country.

The announcement comes as the aviation sector works to restore normalcy after widespread delays triggered by the IndiGo crisis. Civil Aviation Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha said operations are gradually stabilising, adding that the government is coordinating with airports to address passenger concerns.

Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation has granted IndiGo’s CEO and Accountable Manager a one-time 24-hour extension to respond to a Show Cause Notice issued on December 6. The notice pertains to large-scale delays and alleged non-compliance, which the airline attributed to “operational constraints” linked to the size of its nationwide network.
