National Times Bureau :- In a horrific incident, two teenage girls were hit by a speeding Thar while they were crossing road in Chandigarh’s sector 46, killing one of them on the spot and critically injuring other.
The elder one, identified as Sajaf (19), was killed and her younger sister, Isha (17), critically injured. She was admitted to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Sector 32.
According to an eyewitness, a speeding black Mahindra Thar hit them in the afternoon in Sector 46. The SUV driver fled the spot after the accident.
The two sisters, residents of Burail, were crossing the road to reach their vocational institute in Sector 46 when the incident occurred. Local residents rushed them to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Sector 32, where doctors declared Sajaf dead on arrival, while her younger sister, Isha, was reported to be in critical condition.
Police said a case has been filed at the Sector 34 Police Station, and efforts are ongoing to track down the driver of the Thar. Investigators are also examining CCTV footage from the surrounding areas to identify the vehicle.
According to the sources, the police officials have seized the vehicle.
