Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan Urges PM Modi to Announce Flood Relief Package for Punjab

Gurdaspur, September 8 – Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan today visited flood-affected areas of Gurdaspur district, including Makoda Pattan and Jainpur. During his visit, he inspected the breached Dhussi embankment in Jainpur village, met flood-hit families, and reviewed ongoing government relief operations with officials. Aam Aadmi Party leader Shamsher Singh also accompanied him.

Sandhwan said Punjab has been severely hit by floods, leaving many families struggling. He stressed that the state government is working with full strength to tackle the crisis and ensure relief and rehabilitation on a war footing. He assured that measures like strengthening the Dhussi embankment and introducing other flood-prevention steps would soon be taken to safeguard people in the future.

When asked about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to the flood-affected districts of Gurdaspur and Pathankot, Sandhwan said the Prime Minister must announce a special relief package for Punjab. He also urged the Centre to release the pending ₹50,000 crore dues of the state immediately so that funds could be directed toward development and recovery. Sandhwan added that Punjabis are hopeful the Prime Minister will meet their expectations during his visit.

The visit also saw the presence of local leaders, including block presidents Jasbir Singh Kathiyali, Ranjit Singh Jivanchakk, Sonu Pahadipur, Anoop Thakur, Arjun Singh Jhabkara, village head Sansar Singh Jhabkara, and Sarpanch Sonu Saini, along with a large number of villagers.
