New Delhi, February 21, 2025 – Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi on Thursday morning due to stomach-related issues. The hospital confirmed that she was admitted at 8:30 AM and underwent a routine check-up.
Stable and Under Observation
A statement from the hospital assured that Gandhi is now stable and remains under observation. The 78-year-old leader, who celebrated her birthday in December 2024, was last seen in public during the Rajya Sabha Budget session last week.
Concerns Over Census Delay
During the session, Sonia Gandhi raised concerns over the four-year delay in conducting the national census. She expressed skepticism about whether it would take place this year, further criticizing the government for the prolonged inaction.
She also spoke about the National Food Security Act (NFSA), introduced by the UPA government in 2013. Calling it a “landmark initiative,” she emphasized its role in ensuring food security for India’s 140 crore population. Gandhi pointed out that this legislation provided the foundation for the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, which played a crucial role in protecting vulnerable households during the COVID-19 crisis.
While she remains under medical supervision, no further details have been released about the duration of her hospital stay.
