Siraj Soars to Career-Best 15th in ICC Test Rankings After Heroics at The Oval

National Times Bureau, August 6, 2025 – India fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has achieved a career-high 15th position in the latest ICC Test rankings, thanks to his stunning nine-wicket haul in the decisive fifth Test against England at The Oval.

Siraj climbed 12 places after delivering a match-winning performance that included a fiery five-wicket haul, helping India pull off a dramatic six-run victory. With England needing just 35 runs and four wickets in hand on the final day, Siraj came charging in to take three crucial scalps, including the final wicket of Gus Atkinson, sealing a series-leveling win for India. He was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his efforts.

This marks Siraj’s highest-ever Test ranking, surpassing his previous best of 16th, achieved in January 2024.

Meanwhile, pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, who featured in three Tests to manage his workload, continues to dominate the bowling charts with 889 points and remains the top-ranked Test bowler in the world.

Fellow quick Prasidh Krishna also made significant gains, jumping to a career-best 59th position. Krishna and Siraj made history as only the second Indian bowling duo to take four or more wickets each in both innings of a Test match a feat last accomplished by legendary spinners Bishan Singh Bedi and Erapalli Prasanna against Australia in 1969.

In the batting rankings, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal returned to the top five after scoring his second century of the series. He moved up three places and now holds 792 points. Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant dropped one spot to eighth, having missed the final match due to a foot injury.

For England, Joe Root solidified his grip on the top Test batter spot with his third century in as many matches, while Harry Brook surged to second place after his blistering 111 off 98 balls.

On the bowling front, England’s Atkinson and Josh Tongue also reached career-best rankings following their eight-wicket hauls at The Oval. Atkinson broke into the top 10 for the first time, while Tongue jumped 14 places to reach 46th.
