Sidhu Moosewala's Father Balkaur Singh To Contest 2027 Punjab Assembly Polls in Pursuit of Justice

Mansa (National Times): In a significant political development, Balkaur Singh, father of the late Punjabi singer and politician Sidhu Moosewala, has announced that he will contest the upcoming 2027 Punjab Vidhan Sabha elections. The decision, he said, comes from a deep-seated desire to seek justice for his son and to bring about systemic change from within.

Addressing the press ahead of Moosewala’s third death anniversary, Singh declared, “I will not stop until my son gets justice. To do that, I have decided to step into the political arena and enter the system myself.”

Sidhu Moosewala, an influential voice in Punjab’s youth culture and politics, was brutally murdered in broad daylight in May 2022, a killing that stunned the nation and highlighted glaring lapses in law and order. Despite several arrests and ongoing investigations, Moosewala’s family has remained vocal about their dissatisfaction with the way the case has been handled.

Since the tragedy, Balkaur Singh has led public demonstrations and raised his voice in political and social forums, demanding accountability. His latest move to contest the assembly elections marks a shift from activism to political participation.

While Singh has yet to reveal whether he will align with a political party or contest as an independent candidate, his candidacy is expected to resonate strongly with Moosewala’s massive following, particularly the youth who saw the slain artist as a symbol of courage and honesty.

Political analysts believe Singh’s emotional appeal, moral authority, and high public visibility could significantly impact voter sentiments in Punjab. His foray into politics adds a powerful new dimension to the state’s evolving political landscape.

Though the 2027 elections are still two years away, Balkaur Singh’s announcement has already captured the attention of both political circles and the public, marking the beginning of a poignant campaign rooted in personal loss but fueled by a determination to make a difference.
